What is Life Insurance Planning?
The question we often ask about life insurance is, “how much do I need?” But, it isn’t necessarily “how much life insurance” so much as it is “how much money will remaining family members need after we’re gone?” Harbor Lights Financial Group can help to make the correct assessment, as well as the important insurance planning decisions necessary to protect loved ones. Asking the right questions, and evaluating the answers in a way that ultimately serves a client’s goal – this is Life Insurance Planning!
Some costs that might need careful consideration include the following:
– Burial: While a smaller part of an overall life insurance plan, it should be considered. To be cremated, for instance, is less than having a full burial. The average funeral with a burial can be $10,000 or more, so it’s a necessary item to plan for!
– Age-related: When one is 32 with two young kids and a mortgage, the immediate life insurance plan should be for a larger insurance policy. As opposed to planning at age 50 with kids off making their own living and a mortgage debt near to, if not completely, paid down.
– Debt-related: As per the above, where does the mortgage stand? What debts are required to be paid by the estate at the time of death, and what are not? A mortgage might have to be paid by the estate, whereas a college loan might not have any such requirement.
– Family: How many kids? How old are they, and what do you intend to leave them are certainly life insurance planning questions. Is there a plan to fund college for the kids? What about funding college for the next generation of grandkids? What does your spouse need to maintain the lifestyle you left her with?
And who knows, maybe a life insurance plan that adapts to evolving financial circumstances is in order. Financial situations are unique; there is a lot to consider, and we can certainly help to plan for all of them.
