Harbor Lights Financial Group planning services offer a commitment to the sound advice & strategy a client deserves. And because we have no obligation to sell any specific financial product, you can trust that we will only recommend those investments best suited to our client.
What is Planning?
Let’s define the planning practice, especially because we believe it should not be confused with Wealth Management. We take a step-by-step approach to determine the necessary capital needed to meet a client’s personal goal. Our process focuses on income, also on expenses, and potential investments in order to manage them simultaneously in ways that meet that client’s personal goal. While we may look into a number of the same things that a Wealth Manager does, including investing, savings, assets, taxes, insurance, and more, the client is often in a different place. Wealth Managers work almost exclusively with ultra-high net worth (UHNW) individuals, whereas our practice and process choose to manage the assets of a person regardless of whether or not they are wealthy. In fact, the client may not be capable of ‘genuine wealth’, or even wish to be wealthy.
Each of our Financial Advisors takes an in-depth look at a person’s financial situation in order to build a plan necessary to meet their specific goals. Those goals may include growing assets into wealth, or they may simply be meant to develop a plan for using available assets (income & investments) so that they can cover a lifestyle goal. That goal might only be to have assets last to a particular date or over a period of time.
We should also define the professional Certified Financial Planner (CFP), which is a formal certification awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to those individuals who have passed their various exams and remain committed to the required ongoing education. The CFP offers formal expertise for retirement (i.e., 401(k)s), investment planning, taxes, insurance, and estate planning.
